Billionaires Give Their Fortunes Away
The world in general tends to look down on those who have amassed colossal fortunes, but there are a quite a few billionaires who are setting out to prove that being rich does not automatically mean they are completely immune to the sufferings and financial needs of the lower classes. In fact, some of the richest people in the world are coming together in an impressively selfless pact that involves giving away large portions of their money to charity. Signers of The Giving Pledge have set out to prove that those who have a lot of money also have a lot of opportunities to make a difference in the world.
In 2010, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet publicly announced their commitment to give at least half of their substantial fortunes to philanthropic causes. Their generous pact became known as “The Giving Pledge”, and it has become a compelling call to action for many billionaires. In fact, as of January 2015, the total number of current or former billionaires who have signed the pledge and also committed to giving their fortunes away exceeds 130. A few of the more recognizable names on the list include:
•Bill and Melinda Gates
•Dave Goldberg and Sheryl Sandberg
The list of Giving Pledge signers continues to grow as more billionaires make the commitment to pledge their fortunes to good causes.
